The initial result is an example using the form values.
60stitches per row / round
60rows / rounds
Rounding always keeps at least one repeat and one row. A very small target can produce a larger result even when rounding down.
From swatch to project
- Make a swatch with your project’s yarn, hook, stitch and technique. Measure after the same finishing treatment as the project, such as washing or blocking.
- Measure the middle of the swatch and count the stitches and rows within that area. Enter the dimensions of the area you actually counted.
- For a cylindrical bag body, use circumference as the width. Use a swatch worked in the round if the project is worked in the round.
Basic formula: target width ÷ swatch width × swatch stitches. Height uses the same calculation with rows. Stitch counts are adjusted to whole repeats × stitches per repeat + edge stitches.
Results estimate a section with a constant width. This tool does not calculate round-base increases, garment shaping, yarn requirements or pattern-specific foundation chains. Motif rounding is horizontal only; match vertical repeats to your pattern.
